Beverly McCarthy Obituary

Ledyard - Beverly "Bev" McCarthy of Ledyard, passed away peacefully with her daughter and granddaughter by her side Jan. 28, 2022. Born July 12, 1934, in New London, she was the daughter of the late Gertrude (MacDougall) and Eugene Phelps; and lived in the Southeastern Conneticut area her entire life.

She was the wife of the late Thomas P. McCarthy whom she married Jan. 31, 1959, at the Ledyard Congregational Church, Ledyard Center. He sadly passed Dec. 29, 2009. She remained loyal to him for the rest of her life. They lived in Ledyard, most of their married lives. During that time, she was a teacher at Ledyard Center Nursery School located at the same church she was married in. In 1986 Tom, and Bev went on a new adventure together and became caretakers for the Sergio Franchi Estate in Stonington, for almost twenty years. They loved being there and made many memories. In 2005, they moved back into their Ledyard home.

Bev graduated from Fitch Senior High School in Groton, and was a majorette. For many years, she enjoyed ceramics, sewing and painting. She also had a flair for making and decorating wedding cakes. Beverly loved hosting events and really knew how to make people feel right at home. Her tablescapes were always beyond exceptional along with a very creative touch for gift wrapping. She enjoyed vacationing with her family in Texas, Florida, Maine, Paris, Washington, Oregon, California, Niagara Falls and many day trips to NYC.

Beverly leaves behind two daughters, Maureen (Jack) Lee of Washington, and Kristin (Jim) Morosky of Montville; three grandchildren, Hillary Waadevig, Travis (Kelsey) Lee all from Washington, and Rachel Zuppe of Connecticut; wo great-grandchildren, Hayden and Riley Waadevig from Washington; her brother Eugene (Rose) Phelps; and her sister Gertrude (Lloyd) Prescott; many cousins, nieces and nephews whom all called her "Honeygirl." Her sisters, Betty Joyce Noe and Lorraine Fortin, predeceased her.

A celebration of Beverly's life will be private and held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, spend quality time with your family and tell them how much you love them in her memory. She cherished having friends and family sitting at her table.

"I believe there are angels in the world today. They don't wear robes, and you won't recognize them by their harps or halos, but they come into our ordinary lives with an extraordinary way of looking at the world and everyone in it through a lens of caring and compassion."

So many wonderful memories of sitting around Aunt Bev's table on Gallup Hill Road "gabbing" with the girls. My first cup of tea, my first taste of wine, and every Christmas that huge glass jar of cookies. Rest in peace Aunt Bev-I'm sure that you and my Mom are enjoying a cup of tea in heaven right now. All of our love to Maureen, Kristin and their families-Betsy and Brian

Although we never met, I feel like I know you through your daughter Maureen and see such a strong resemblance. Great stories and memories shared. Maureen, Jack & family I am sorry for your loss, but know she is in a better place with no more pain. I hope that those stories and fond remembrances will comfort you and bring you peace.

Dear Trudy, Butch, and all the Family,

I´m so sorry to hear that Honey Girl has passed. She was always such a special person. As a kid growing up next door, I have such good memories of her. She was so kind and sweet to everyone.

I didn´t see her too much after she married but I remember her being so happy married to Tom and having her two adorable little girls.

My sympathy to all of you for your loss.
