Bill Kane Obituary

Bozrah - Bill Kane Jr., longtime resident of Bozrah, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016.

He was born in Norwich, son of the late William A. Kane Sr. and Valida (Thibeault) Kane. Bill was a 1946 graduate of N.F.A. He was a member of the CT National Guard where he achieved the rank of sergeant E-5 and was a graduate of the Southeastern Signal School for Radio Operation at Camp Gordon, Ga. during the Korean War.

On Jan. 3, 1951, he married Theresa Homiski who survives him. He was employed for 55 years as a salesman for H. Willey Wholesale Company in Norwich.

Bill was a member of the Bozrah Volunteer Fire Company for 60 years, having held numerous positons including president, vice president, engineer, assistant chief and coach and manager of the softball and bowling teams. He was a member of St. John Church in Fitchville where he was an usher and former CCD teacher.

From an early age Bill had a great love of sports. He especially loved to play basketball, but also played softball and bowled. He was an avid fan of the NY Yankees, Boston Celtics and UCONN women's basketball. He coached in the Bozrah Little League system for many years.

Bill loved to travel and equally loved to spend months planning his trips. Theresa and Bill traveled to each of the 50 states, all of the Canadian provinces and several countries in Europe. He took great pride in taking care of his home and family. He loved family get-togethers and his sense of humor was legendary.

In addition to Theresa, his wife of 65 years, he is survived by his children: Kathleen Arpin (Andy) of Bozrah, William A. Kane III (Susan) of Mystic, Beverly Anne Braus, R.N. (Mel) of Bozrah; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, James and Thomas Kane; and sister, Mary Homiski.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, at Church and Allen Funeral Home in Norwich. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. John Church in Fitchville. Entombment will immediately follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Norwich.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bozrah Volunteer Fire Company.

Dear Theresa and all the Kanes, so very sorry to hear of Bill's passing. My deepest sympathies and utmost respect, he was a great guy. Very sorry I was unable to attend his services. I certainly remember living back yard to back yard with all of you guys and playing a lot of baseball and basketball with Bill. He was always a classy guy and great competitor, he always took it to us young guys whenever he got the opportunity! We will all miss his generous smile and jet black, un-mussed hair. And, he certainly served the citizens of Bozrah in so many ways and our nation. Well done, Bill, well done!

Dear Theresa and Family,
My deepest sympathy to you all. It was always a pleasure to see Bill at St. John's on Sunday morning. Never a hair out of place, and while others grew older, Bill remained unchanged for many years. Bill's fierce competitive streak on the basketball court at FMS lives on in stories told by the Sweeney Boys. May you find comfort in the memories.

Bill will be missed by many, I always enjoyed chatting with him. I recall to this day our discussions in the fall of 1999 when I was running for First Selectman.

To Theresa and the Kane Family, my deepest condolences on the loss of Bill. With the exception of being Yankee fan, he was a great guy. I liked and admired him.
