He was born in Khartoum, Sudan, on Nov. 3, 1955, to the late John and Ruth (Standish) Bayer.
Bruce was a very thoughtful and caring brother and uncle who loved his many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sister, Jill Symes and her children, Ian, Susie, Andrew, and Karan-Julie, all of Australia; his brothers, Ray Bayer, his wife, Marci, and their four children of Stonington, and Bryan Bayer and his wife, Wendy, and their two children of Laurel, Md.
Bruce will be missed by all who loved and knew him. His family would like to extend considerable thanks and gratitude to all those who cared for and helped Bruce through most of his adult years. That support always came with a great deal of compassion and respect.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at the Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, with visitation with the family beginning at 4 p.m.
