Bruce Tuthill Obituary

Hingham - Bruce Steven Tuthill, 79, of Plymouth, Mass., passed away surrounded by his wife and daughters Aug. 30, 2021, missing a 10:40 a.m. tee time, but not much else. He lived a great life - blessed with a phenomenal wife, devoted children and grandchildren, a big extended family and many loyal friends.

Bruce was born lucky on 7-11, 1942, to Gordon and Madeline (Jackson) Tuthill in Bayside Queens, N.Y. He was one of four children including Gordon and Richard Tuthill (who both predeceased him), and his baby sister Madge DeSales whom he loved dearly. After graduating from New London High School in 1960, he went on to receive his Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the University of Notre Dame in 1964, where he served as student body president. Bruce participated in the ROTC program and was commissioned upon graduation, serving on active duty as a lieutenant in the Army Air Defense Command.

Bruce received his Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School and became a highly successful stockbroker at several firms including E.F. Hutton. He was a Senior Vice President and served on the Board of Directors at E.F. Hutton and was widely respected as one of the top brokers at the firm.

Bruce reconnected with Sandra (Kalil), who also grew up in New London, and they married in 1968. Their love story would span the decades as they raised their four daughters, Whitney Presutti, Tracey Buckeridge and Melissa Forger, all of Hingham, Mass., and Kelley Tuthill of Wellesley, Mass. Bruce generously funded scholarships for students in need at Notre Dame and volunteered his time at many worthy organizations.

He welcomed Guy Presutti, Brendan Ward, Tim Buckeridge and Glenn Forger into the family and loved them like sons. Grandpa Bruce lives on in his 14 grandchildren whom he adored including Samantha, Jacqueline, Max, Grayson and Alexandra Presutti; Madeline, Cecilia and Scarlett Ward; Tyler, Ashley and Trevor Buckeridge; and Taylor, Finn and Cameron Forger.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to greet the family during the visiting hours from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald Street (off Central Street). The funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Church of the Resurrection, Hingham. Burial in Hingham Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Notre Dame. Please direct your gift to the Bruce S. Tuthill Scholarship for deserving students with demonstrated financial need. Contributions can be made by online at giving.nd.edu/tuthill, or by phone at 574-631-5150.

Bruce was a great person, a true friend, and will be greatly missed. We talked nearly every day, mostly about religion and Jeopardy. He was a believer in both. Requiescat in pace, Bruce. Barry McCloskey

Mr. Tuthill,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army during the Cold War. Millions of Americans slept safe at night because you and your fellow Servicemen stood ready to defend our Country. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Bruce was a great pal. We met in September of 1964 on the first day of our 2 year Harvard Business School adventure. From moment one, we were buddies, staying in touch every year since.....golfing, dining with our wives Sandy and Holly, many other friends, getting together at HBS events on a regular basis. Being in the investment business together was another feature of our camaraderie. A treasure of a 57 year friendship, Bruce is going to be missed! We loved him, and always will.
