Catherine "Kay" Patterson

Noank - Catherine "Kay" (Carson) Patterson, a native Noanker, passed away peacefully surrounded by her dear family and friends Aug. 2, 2025. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 44 years, Carl "Cappy" Patterson.

Kay was born May 26, 1937, to her loving parents, Bernard and Catherine McVeigh Carson.

Kay was a banker with Connecticut Bank & Trust Company, then Bank of America for 38 years retiring as an assistant vice president and manager of the Groton office. She retired at 55 years old, because she always said, "I am going to take time to smell the roses," and she certainly did that for 33 years.

She was very active in her community, a member of the Groton Ledyard Rotary, a volunteer for the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival for over 25 years, a volunteer for the Taste of Mystic and she served as a treasurer for UNICEF.

Kay was active in her church, St. Mary's Mother of the Redeemer, where she was a member of the social committee, served as a Communicant and Eucharistic Minister, and worked on two capital campaigns for the new church center. As a member of St. Joseph's Church in Noank, she also taught Sunday school.

Kay was a 1955 graduate of Fitch High School where she was chosen as Best Female Athlete in her class.

She is survived by her sister, Jane Carson Welsh of Alexandria, Va; 15 nieces; and three nephews; numerous godchildren; and extended family.

Her family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening, Aug. 8, at the Mystic Funeral Home located on Route 1 in Mystic. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in Groton. Following the Mass, she will be buried at the Noank Valley Cemetery. The family kindly asks that contributions to the American Lung Association or the Lung Cancer Research Foundation be considered in lieu of flowers.
