Charlotte Allen Obituary

Colchester - Charlotte Allen, 87, of Colchester, formerly of Bozrah, passed away Monday, March 27, 2023, at Hartford Hospital. She was born March 17, 1936, in Hartford, St. Patrick's Day. She was the daughter of the late Carolyn (Beebe) Thom.

Charlotte attended school systems in West Hartford, and West Springfield, Mass., before moving to Norwich. As a child, Charlotte spent summers in Maine, at the Wavus camp in Jefferson, Maine. She enjoyed summer camp so much that she returned many years later with her older sister Connie to visit the camp. Charlotte graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1954, and continued her education at Morse Business School in Hartford.

Charlotte worked in the Banking industry, worked for Edwards Supermarket and worked as a waitress for many years at Friendly's in Norwichtown. She enjoyed waiting on her customers at Friendly's and was very popular. Charlotte was an experienced swimmer and enjoyed swimming during the summer at her residence in Gardner Lake in Bozrah. She also enjoyed ice skating at Gardner Lake during the winter season. Her passion for ice skating carried over to watching figure skating on TV during the winter months and watching figure skating competition during the winter Olympics. Charlotte was a member of the Woodman Farm Association at Gardner Lake for many years. She enjoyed bird watching in her yard and loved to watch beautiful butterflies on her property during the summer months. Charlotte had a large collection of butterfly memorabilia. Charlotte was a member of the Leffingwell Baptist Church in Bozrah. She enjoyed getting together at Bozrah Pizza on the last Thursday of each month with a group of church members called Friendly Folks.

Charlotte was predeceased by her sisters, Constance Bradley and Carol Bloomquist. She is survived by sisters, Carmen McKee of Hamden, and Eleanor Eccleston of Norwich. Charlotte leaves three children, John Willey of Rutherford, N.J., Kathleen Willey and partner Gary of Colchester, and Donald Willey Jr. and Helen of Uncasville; three grandchildren, Samantha Willey and partner Juan, James Henderson and wife Ana and Mary Henderson: two great-grandchildren, Emma and Sophia; several nieces and nephews; as well as many extended family and friends.

The family will receive guests from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, April 14, at the Church & Allen Funeral Home in Norwich, followed by a Chapel Service at 2 p.m. officiated by minister Gary Poorman. Burial to be at the convenience of the family.

Charlotte was a part of the many good memories I had growing up, and as a result, part of my very happy childhood. We miss her, but fully expect to see her in the resurrection.
