Christopher Mullaney

1934 - 2023

Old Lyme - Christopher Mullaney passed away suddenly Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023. He was born in Washington, D.C. July 22,1934, son of the late RADM Baron Joseph Mullaney USN and the late Mary Jacobs Mullaney scion of the Jacobs family of Danielson.

Christopher graduated from Killingly High School in 1954, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y. in 1958. Upon graduation, he was awarded a marine engineering license and commissioned ensign in the United States Naval Reserve. He sailed in the U. S. Merchant Marine for three years before leaving the sea to marry Judith Ashworth of Brooklyn, in 1960. He then worked as an engineer in nuclear shipbuilding program at Bethlehem Steel's Four River Yard at Quincy, Mass., and later held various engineering and management positions at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics at Groton, before retiring after 33 years in 1994.

He is survived by Judy and three children: Timothy P. Mullaney (Kelli) and their daughter Meghan and granddaughter Raine; Delight Corvi and her four children: Abigail, Trevor, Christopher and Marissa, and Jonathan Mullaney (Cheryle) and their two children, Sam and Katie. He also leaves his brother-in-law Bruce Ashworth (Denise).

Mr. Mullaney was an avid sailor/yachtsman and traveled the world extensively visiting most of the continents. He was a member of the USMMAAF-CSC, the Niantic Bay Yacht Club and the East Lyme Lions Club. He resided in Niantic for 28 years and later in Old Lyme for 23 years.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Thomas L. Neilan and Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, 11 Governor Winthrop Blvd., New London, CT 06320.
