Daniel Brennan Obituary

Norwich - Daniel M. "Bucky" Brennan, 91, died peacefully surrounded by his family and friends at his daughter's Franklin home on Sunday.

He was born in Norwich on March 15, 1916 to the former Humphrey and Emma (Brosofske) Brennan Sr.

After completing high school, Bucky entered the U.S. Army serving during World War II in Africa until his honorable discharge.

"Bucky" as everyone knew him, was a friend to all he met. He was especially fond of animals. He was an athlete throughout his youth including playing semi-pro hockey for which he received a college scholarship but declined it to serve his country instead.

He owned and operated B & B Stables in Norwich which at its peak had 70 horses. He also owned B & B Tree Service in which he remained active into his mid 80's. He was well known for his climbing skills. He was one of the last cowboys participating in many rodeos; his specialty was trick riding. Bucky rode with many people including Roy Rogers, Dale Evans and Gene Autry. He loved his family, his farm, his country and he loved his time spent working in the hayfields.

He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie Dumont and her husband, Steven; one brother, Paul Brennan; two grandchildren, Erin Fitzpatrick and Chelsea Dumont; and several nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by a special friend, Mary Ellen Casey.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Humphrey and William Brennan and one sister, Edith Lee. Other special friends are John Mylly, Amy and Dave Johnson, his dogs, Tango and Blue and cat, Larry.

Calling hours will be held at the Woyasz and Son Funeral Home, 141 Central Ave., Norwich on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday at the Cathedral of St. Patrick at 10 a.m. immediately followed by military honors. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, you may make memorial donations to the CT Humane Society or Connecticut VNA, 12 Case St., Suite 316, Norwich, CT 06360.

My parents were good friends of Bucky's, and I have to say, some of my very first memories are of visiting his farm (which I found more fun and interesting than an amusement park), visiting him at fairs (where I always got a free pony ride) and eating with him at Kickapoo Pizza. I am glad that my parents, Joe and Deb Weidner had the opportunity to visit Bucky one last time this summer, and am disappointed that I was not able to so as well. He was a really, really good person, and I know that he will be missed dearly.

When I moved here 20 years ago Bucky came up, introduced himself and said: 'ya gonna heat with wood?' I said 'yes' and he said, 'come on up to the farm I'll show ya where to get it.'
Thats the kind of man he was. He's helped me and many others over the years. He was as tough as they come. He was also as kind to others as a man can be. I wish more of us were like him.

Bucky such a kind and gentle soul. My lab of 15 years passed away in August and I did not want to replace him and then someone gave me a Weimanara. All I could think of was Bucky. I would always see Bucky's Weimanara first, at any show or horse auction, then I knew Bucky was there also. Bucky's dog was very dedicated and loyal to his owner. Bucky always had a great and interesting story to tell, he will be sadly missed.

My Dad, Butch Milewski, my brother Henry & myself grew up riding the horses from the B&B stables. We were privileged to have known Mr. Brennan and his love of animals and send our heartfelt sympathy to the family.
