He was a loving husband and father. Dave worked at the Springfield Armory located in Springfield, Mass. until it closed in 1967 when he moved his wife and four young children to New London to begin his work at the Naval Underwater System Center. There he was awarded the Decibel Award. After his retirement he continued his work on a consulting basis.
Dave was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Shennecosset Golf Club. He was a member of the Beth-El Synagogue.
He married Beverly (Seader) Gelfond, his loving wife of 55 years, on March 25, 1951.
He is survived by his wife Beverly; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Michael Schaffrick, son and daughter-in-law, Ira and Becky Gelfond, son and loving partner, Eric Gelfond and Marissa Farrell, and son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Daniella Gelfond; and six grandchildren, Matt, Zach, Ari, Shayna, Maxime and Elijah. He is also survived by a sister, Elaine Gelfond and a brother, Alvin Gelfond and several nieces and nephews.
The service will be on Feb. 14, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Beth-El Synagogue, 660 Ocean Ave., New London, with burial at the Beth-El Cemetery immediately following.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hadassah, 660 Ocean Ave., New London, CT 06320 or to Beth-El Synagogue or to a charity of choice.
