David McBride Obituary

New London - David F. McBride Sr., 70, formerly of Lisbon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2014, in New London.

He was born in New London, on July 30, 1943, to the late Robert L. and Genevieve (Hlastawa) McBride. Dave was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy, Class of 1961. He was owner/operator of multiple local Dairy Queen restaurants. Dave and his former wife, Carolyn Cellucci, opened their first franchise in Taftville in 1969. They expanded their business to include stores in Pawcatuck and Norwich. Dave enjoyed many aspects of being a self-employed businessman including the camaraderie of his employees, the challenges of equipment maintenance, and the familiarity of his "regulars". He retired in 2009, pleased that his business remained in the family.

Dave enjoyed maintaining a meticulously landscaped yard. He was a tremendous cook who loved both preparing gourmet meals and dining out with family and friends. A "gear head" at heart, Dave got quite a kick out of working on and showing his customized vehicles.

Dave is survived by his three children, Shelley M. McBride and her husband, James Belli, David F. McBride Jr., and Matthew R. McBride and his wife, Jessica McLean; seven grandchildren, Ava Belli, Makayla, Michael, and Mark McBride, Kayla Paris, Shamus and Aidan McLean. He is also survived by his brother, Robert K. "Butch" McBride and his wife, Helen; two sisters, Shirley J. Phillips and her husband, Randy, and Marlene M. Mangrich and her husband, Dennis; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dave's family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. at the Mystic Funeral Home, 51 Williams Ave., Route 1, Mystic. Burial will be private.

David's family would like to thank the dedicated staff members at The Elms and Chestnut Cottage, Westerly, and Kindred Crossings East, New London, for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc., www.lbda.org or the James A. Greenleaf Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, www.jamesgreenleaf.org.

Carolyn, Shelley, Dave & Matt,

I am so sorry to hear about your loss.
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Remembering the fun times we had, as kids, especially playing minature golf at Taftville Dairy Queen. We've enjoyed stopping there over the years and we still visit your family stores today for great food and icecream.
My daughter loves the hot fudge sundaes & blizzards.
Thinking of you today and in the days ahead.
May wonderful memories comfort you during this most difficult time and bring you peace. May God bless you.
My deepest sympathies,
