David Walsh Obituary

Griswold - David John Walsh, 47, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015, at Hartford Hospital.

David was born in Norwich, on Oct. 7, 1967, a son to John and Arline (Bordeau) Walsh. David was a 1985 graduate of Griswold High School and obtained an associate's degree at Thames Valley Technical College.

David was employed at Electric Boat for over 25 years as a senior mechanical designer. He played billiards in several local pool leagues and loved sports, especially taking trips to the Big East basketball tournament with his sons. His two favorite teams were the New York Giants and Boston Red Sox.

David was an outstanding son, brother, and friend to so many people, but his greatest love was being a father. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his mother, Arline Walsh; two sons, Brad and Brandon Walsh of Griswold; brothers, Michael Walsh and Steven Walsh and wife, Christine, of Griswold; sister, Stacy Booth and husband, Chris, of East Hampton; nieces and nephews, Kelsey and Matthew Booth and James and Anna Walsh.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Road, Jewett City. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Pachaug Cemetery, Route 138, Griswold.

In lieu of flowers, donations in David's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.

There are no words during these difficult times. I'm saddened for Brad, Brandon, the boys Mother, Walsh family and David's friends. Had the pleasure of meeting him once in the summer of 1994. I visited to meet the boys. With his boys, he was shining. No question about it, he loves his boys. Through the years, as recent as the fall of 2014, Marie has testified, David was a lot of things but what she respected most was, he's an outstanding father. A persistent man, no choice, his boys will have a College education. An Associates Degree wasn't enough for Brad. He would Graduate with a Bachelors. She told me he wasn't enthusiastic about Brad going into Law Enforcement, he wasn't going to stand in his way. He'd stand by the mat Brandon was wrestling on, not bothered watching his son struggle to win the match. He celebrated the victory. I've seen the videos of Brandon wrestle. I heard David yelling. Marie is right. He was a lot of things but being a father is what he did best. He was a natural. It's obvious he left everyone with memories and his boys will live his legacy. Stand tall and proud Brad and Brandon, just as your father did. David John Walsh R.I.P

Bradley and Brandon and the entire Walsh family, My deepest sympathy on the loss of your dad, son and brother. He was such a great father and loved you boys more than anything, whenever I would see him I always enjoyed getting the latest updates on how well you both were doing and how proud he was of you. During the hurricane when he had power and I didn't he was really there for me, offering me a place to stay or a hot meal. We always enjoyed busting each others chops and he did it the best thanks to his quick wit and intelligence which I so greatly admired. I loved him and my heart hurts. I am so sorry for your loss.

I am still in shock and my prayers and deepest sympathies go out to Dave's family. I have known him for many years and have seen him grow from a young man who would climb the rafters in the gym and jump onto mats into the responsible parent and adult he became. I will miss my friend and the world is worse off with his passing heaven however is in for one heck of a shake up.
