David Arthur Wright

1936 - 2021

Mystic - Mr. David Arthur Wright, E-9, United States Navy veteran, 84, of Mystic passed away Dec. 16, 2020, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, from complications from COVID-19.

David was born in Albany, N.Y. to David Wright and Carrie Ferguson March 8, 1936. He spent his childhood growing up in Wilton, N.H. After graduating from high school in Wilton, N.H., Dave enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he had an extensive career. During his time of service, he reunited with his high school sweetheart Patricia A. West, and the two eventually married. They had a beautiful daughter Lisa Wright and son Dave W. Wright. The family traveled the world together with the U.S. Navy, living in Guam, Germany, Alaska, Hawaii and eventually residing in Mystic.

David loved taking care of his home, puttering in his garage/yard and traveling. His love of traveling and airplanes rubbed off on his two children, who both work/worked in the aviation travel industry, of whom he was extremely proud.

David was honored at his retirement with the Navy Achievement Medal as a master chief cryptologic technician. After his respected 30-year career with the Navy, he continued working for many years at Sonalysts in Waterford.

In addition to submarines, David loved traveling the world, and especially loved Hawaii. He and his wife enjoyed spending a month every winter at their favorite place, the Hale Koa Hotel on Waikiki Beach.

David A. Wright was a dedicated veteran, son, father, son-in-law and devoted husband. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Wright; and his son David W. Wright and daughter-in-law Suzanne Wright. David was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren: Callie Plumbroeck and Garrett Biddiscombe and Nathan and Hannah Wright; and two great-grandchildren, Everley and Kieran Plumbroeck.

David was a resident at Academy Point Assisted Living in Mystic, where he enjoyed his last years of life. He will be greatly missed. His ashes will be taken to his family plot in Wilton, N.H. to be laid to rest with his beloved wife.
