Dean Shultis Obituary
Dean was born on Feb. 10, 1927, in White Plains, N.Y., the son of George and Betsey Shultis. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the South Pacific, repairing PT boats and as a gunman on a mine sweeper. After the war, he worked for the New York Central Railroad for 40 years as a lineman and a conductor, retiring in 1983 and moving to Stonington to be close to family.
Dean was a devoted husband and father. In 1945, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Martha Losito. They were happily married and totally in love for 66 years until Dorothy's death in 2012. He and Dorothy were inseparable. They loved to fish, boat and target shoot. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons, Dean Shultis and his wife, Mary-Jo, of Groton, Roger Shultis and his wife, Susan, of Greenville, S.C.; as well as his grandchildren, David and Kevin, of Connecticut and Curtis and Kim, of South Carolina; and two great-grandchildren, Devin and Trenton Shultis.
A graveside service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic.
Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New Londo, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Roger and Dean, I am your father's first cousin once removed. It was by mere coincidence that I stumbled across his obituary this evening and am so very sorry to learn of his passing. He called us on the telephone a few years ago in regard to family history, and we had a lovely conversation. Your mom sent us some family photos. I have both a brother and a nephew named Dean Shultis as well.

Dean was probably one of my favorite residents I took care of. My favorite memory is tucking him in every night at Groton regency.
