Donald Gest Obituary

Mystic - Donald Abell Gest, 92, of Jerry Browne Road, Mystic, and formerly of Ashaway and Weekapaug, R.I., died peacefully on Feb. 20, 2011.

Born in Covington, Ky., on Nov. 25, 1918, he was the son of the late Neil and Ana Mae (Baxter) Gest. He was a graduate of Mechanicsburg Ohio High School and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Mr. Gest was a Lt. j.g. in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in Guam.

Donald was employed by DuPont Co., in the textile division for many years before his retirement as sales manager.

He is survived by his son, Douglas Gest of Hanover, N.H.; his daughter, Sarah Bauer (Jack) of Kyle, Tex.; his brothers, Neil Gest (Betty Carol) of Sammamish, Wash., and James Gest (Beth) of Bellevue, Wash.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves his wife, Jane B. Gest of Mystic, and her family.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Nancy (Johnson) Gest; his son, Richard Gest; and his brother, William Gest.

Burial services will be private at a later date at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, R.I.

Memorial contributions may be made to your local animal shelter or animal rescue league.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly.

To Jane and Family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember so many wonderful evenings talking with you and Don at Venice and what a charming, wonderful man he was. He was the consummate gentleman and my sympathies to all of you.
