Dorothy Irene "Dot" Bowers

Groton - Dorothy "Dot" Irene Bowers, 97, a resident at Fairview Independent Living in Groton, passed away peacefully Friday, Oct. 24, 2025, at Backus Hospital in Norwich.

She was born Aug. 16, 1928, to the late Frank and Stefania (Strojny) Bohara. She was raised in Norwich, the youngest of seven children, and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1946. She married Donald C. Bowers, her loving husband of 60 years, who preceded her in death.

Dot loved her home in Saunders Point on the Niantic River. She enjoyed spending summers with her family on their cabin cruiser, swimming in Niantic Bay and traveling to their favorite destinations of Watch Hill, R.I., and Sag Harbor, N.Y. She was a wonderful cook and baker and her family will treasure the beautiful blankets she so expertly knitted over the years. After raising her children, she was employed at SNET. In retirement, Dot and her husband enjoyed spending the winter months in Florida.

She is survived by her daughter Jessica DiLuca and her husband James Jr. and cherished grandson James III, of Essex; and her son Dr. Jeffrey C. Bowers and his wife Liane, and grandsons, Blake and Ethan of San Diego, Calif.; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Don, she was preceded in death by her brothers: Stanley (Red), Henry (Pat), Walter (Bill) and Francis (Frank); and her sisters, Helen Nolan and Josephine Campbell.
