Dorothy Spurgas Obituary

Bozrah - Dorothy "Dottie" Spurgas, widow of Richard Spurgas, passed away Dec. 11, 2022, after her third battle with cancer. Dorothy was born Feb. 18, 1936, to the late Filomena Costello and John Yodice in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she grew up with her four sisters and two brothers.

On Feb. 16, 1957, Dorothy and Richard were united in marriage. Dorothy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her children: Jo-Ann (David) Stadelmaier, Richard Spurgas Jr. (Kim), Lisa (Toby) Robison, David (Erin) Spurgas and Kevin (Katie) Spurgas; her grandchildren: Jessica (Bill) Pia, Nicole (Ryan Keefe) Robison, Brittany Spurgas, Desiree Spurgas, Cameron Spurgas, Cienna Spurgas and Leonardo Spurgas; her great-grandchildren: Connor Robison and Caelan Pia and her brother Michael Yodice. She was predeceased by her grandson Zachary Spurgas; and siblings, John, Josephine, Cecilia, Annette and Deborah.

Dottie ran a home daycare for over 25 years, expanding her family with the close relationships she formed with both the parents and their children. She was affectionately called Grammy Dottie by the children she cared for and made a lasting impact on their lives. Anyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting Dottie immediately knew how much her family meant to her, whether they were related to her by blood or by love. Dottie had the gift of gab and a way of conveying her love in a that made you feel special. Although Gram's absence leaves a heartache that cannot be healed, her unconditional love and the memories we have with her will provide comfort.

The family would like to thank Dottie's caregiver Victoria for her compassionate care, and to all of our friends and family for their support. A very special thank you to Denise Lombardo for the support and care she provided to Dottie during this difficult time.

Calling hours will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at Woyasz & Son Funeral Home with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich.

Dottie was a wonderful and caring woman who loved her family so much! She loved taking care of children and we shared that love. I had the joy of meeting her through Richie and his family. She will always hold a special place in my heart. My deepest sympathies to all of your family.

We had the pleasure of knowing Dottie through her daycare work. Two of my dear friend Becky's children were cared for Dottie and they loved her so much. Then, our son David worked at Big Y and he was a favorite of Dottie's. Each week when we would go shopping, we would get in her line to talk to her. She would update us on her family. Dottie was so proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. This sure made grocery shopping more enjoyable.
Dottie, you are now reunited in heaven with your dear husband Richard. Enjoy your eternal reward together. We'll see you again sometime in the future.
