He was the son of the late Dudley Pierrepont Gilbert and Adrienne (Iselin) Gilbert of New York and Newport, R.I., and grandson of New York architect, C.P.H. Gilbert.
He is survived by his wife, Katharine "Kim" O. Gilbert; his sister, Edith Welch; his daughters, Emily T. Gilbert, Anne D. Gilbert, Susan G. James, Patricia C. Gilbert; his grandchildren, Kelly A. McCabe, Caroline T. Pribble, C. Braxton James, Tracy N. James; and his step-children, Stephen S. Johnson and Carolyn B. Goben.
He was predeceased by his brother, Charles P. Gilbert.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Beechwood Manor and Hospice of SE CT for their experienced and kind care shown to Mr. Gilbert.
At his request, there will be no services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the CT Chapter Southeast Group of the Sierra Club, 645 Farmington Ave., Hartford CT 06105.

Kim, I am so sorry for your loss. My dad past this on to me... I know he is also feeling a loss this week. I will always remember our conoe trips with fondness. Dudley was truly a special individual.
