Edward Coristine Obituary

Mystic - Edward "Ed" K. Coristine, 78, of Mystic, husband of 39 years to Elizabeth (Sajek) Coristine, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at home.

Born in Providence, R.I., he was the son of the late Thomas and Blanche (LePage) Coristine. Ed lived in Newport, R.I. for most of his life where he owned & operated his business, Coristine Locksmith for many years up until his retirement in 1986.

Living in Newport, Ed was active in local politics, serving on the city council for ten years, and was a former parishioner at St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge.

Ed who was proud of his Irish heritage was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Improved Order of Red Men. Everyone who knew Ed, loved him for his jovial and spontaneous personality. We will miss him dearly.

In addition to his wife, Betty; he leaves a brother, Thomas Coristine and his wife, Barbara, of Florida; four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.

He was predeceased by a son, Edward "Kenny" K. Coristine Jr.; and a brother, Paul Coristine.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, Mystic (51 Williams Ave.). A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Mary Church, 95 Main St., Stonington. A graveside service will follow the mass with full military honors at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel at St. Columba Cemetery, 465 Browns Lane, Middletown, R.I.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Church, 95 Main St., Stonington, CT 06378.
