Edward Perl Obituary

New London - Edward Hal Perl, 75, lifelong resident of New London, passed away peacefully Monday, March 2, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.

Ed was born May 20, 1950, in New London, the son of the late Murray and Ethel (Stoner) Perl. He graduated from New London High School and the City College of New York, and worked for many years as a partner in the family business, New London Store Fixture Co. After its closure, Ed continued to work in the restaurant equipment industry, including running his own business for several years, Maxwell Restaurant Equipment. As a semi-retiree, he worked for Curtain Livery, first driving and later serving as a bus monitor for children with special needs.

He was an active member of the community, participating over the years in the New London Rotary Club and serving on the board of OIC. Ed was also a long-time congregant of Temple Emanu-El in Waterford.

Ed leaves his beloved wife of 45 years, Mary "Mimi" Boehner Perl; daughter Jennifer (Wes) Thompson of Simsbury; son Matthew of New London; sisters, Janice (Richard) Pullman, of Dallas, Texas, and Carol (Joel) Persky of Sarasota, Fla.; sister- and brother-in-law, Kate and Bruce Liebman of East Haven; and granddaughters, Clare and Summer Thompson. Ed also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews, and close friends.

Ed will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, and love for his family and community.

The funeral will take place at Noon Thursday, March 5, at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. Burial will follow at Beth El Community Cemetery, 50 Lestertown Rd, Groton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's memory to Temple Emanu-El, PO Box 288, Waterford, CT 06385, or to the Jewish Federation of Eastern CT, 400 New London Tpke, Norwich, CT 06360 or to an organization of the donor's choice. When we think of a wonderful brother-in-law, Ed immediately comes to mind. He was always there for us with a smile or a helping hand, a good sense of humor and of course a love of family and prime rib (rare). Thanks for your friendship and over 50 years of special memories. Wish we could have another 50 with you.
