She is survived by her husband, George; brother, Robert (Lynn) Flanagan of Brigantine, N.J.; sister, Mary Flanagan of Long Branch, N.J.; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and her best friend and sister-in-law, Kathleen (Hyland) Lahey of Bridgewater, N.J.

Eileen married George P. Hyland, on Feb. 25, 1967, in Jersey City, N.J. and celebrated 51 years together. I was very sorry to hear of Eileen's passing. We were classmates and teammates on the basketball team at St Joseph's high school. Eileen was always fun to be around, she always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone.

Dear George, Garen, & the entire circle of Eileen's family n' friends,

I've known Garen for some time now...from the old neighborhood we've both moved on from! We've maintained some touch over the years, most recently again through FB contact.

Understanding the hole left behind by so loved a wife, sister, aunt, n' friend, regardless forewarning, pray this helps some wee bit...to allow...enable...the grief! And it will come...indulge it...it is necessary and it is, also, a measure of the impact this lost love had on your life! So truly sorry to hear about Eileen. Definitely keepin' y'all in my prayers that Christ hold you close in this trying time!

When my mother died, even after a years-long battle with cancer, I was shattered by the loss...inconsolable...she was my mentor! BUT, "If your faith assures you she's in heaven, then what are the tears all about?!?" I hold eternity with God a precious, cherished, and hard-won prize...but...in the interim, the answer lies below.

SELFISH TEARS
(I EULOGIZE MY BELOVED MOTHER - MARCH, 1989)

Today we cry...must admit they're selfish tears.
You see...our faith assures your journey's done.
But it's not for you we mourn, at all, my dear;
It's for those of us you've left behind...alone!!!

We share your joy...share your happiness at rest,
Your painful fears now for forever stilled.
You've fought the good fight, passed the final test,
But you've left behind a hole that can't be filled!!!

So, until we each rejoin you some someday,
And, while your memory buoys us through those years,
We'll miss you...but continue on our way,
And, from time to time, we'll cry our selfish tears!!!

Ray Hamilton (c) March 19, 1989

My sincerest condolences...fondest prayers,

I will always remember Aunt Eileen with a warm heart. Looking back, her fun-loving ways, her consitently positive outlook on life, and the ways she brought laughter and smiles into all our lives were special gifts she shared with all of us. Aunt Eileen, thank you for reminding us all to focus on the the so many positive blessings we are given in life and reminding us that laughter and making others happy are some of the most precious gifts we can all share to make this world a better place. You did just that. With loving and happy memories, your nephew Kevin Flanagan.
