Eleanor Phillips Obituary

Colchester - Eleanor Jean Phillips, 83, of Colchester, passed away Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023. Born May 25, 1940, in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late James and Jean (Grant) Macintyre.

Eleanor was a graduate of Roslindale High School in Massachusetts. She was employed as loan office manager for CorePlus Federal Credit Union, where she had worked for many years. Eleanor was involved in the local community center, as well as the Thames Valley Council for Community Action. Eleanor lived in various locations on the Eastern and Western Coasts of the U.S, as well as Alaska, during her husband James Phillips' naval career, settling in Gales Ferry for 30 years before relocating to Colchester.

She was a very crafty person who developed a passion for photography. Eleanor held the creative ability to recognize and showcase the natural beauty within the world through her photography. Eleanor deeply enjoyed flying and valued her time spent as a charter pilot flying from Groton to Montauk. Being a pilot allowed Eleanor to spend cherished moments with her daughters while in the air embarking on local flights, as well as farther destinations such as Maine, and Florida.

Eleanor will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially by her beloved daughters, Sandra and Deborah Phillips; along with countless other extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, Eleanor was predeceased by her son James Phillips.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Westchester Congregational Church, 95 Cemetery Road, Colchester. To sign the online guest book or share a memory of Eleanor, please visitwww.auroramccarthyfuneralhome.com.

Eleanor was a dear friend to my mother, Dolores Cochrane. They spent a great deal of time together both at work (NFCU/Community Service CU) and she flew my Mom several times, one time I remember they flew to Cape Cod for lunch. :) She was a dear sweet woman and now those two dear friends can enjoy each other's company together. RIP Eleanor, I will remember you fondly. My sympathies and prayers go out to your daughters and families and all those lives you have touched with you love and generosity.

For about 3 years, I worked at Community Service Credit Union where Eleanor was manager for several years. I loved working for her, as she always knew the right thing to do for most situations, and treated the members and employees well. She was very compassionate and understanding. I enjoyed her sense of humor immensely. She will be missed.

Many pleasant memories of Eleanor come to mind from the many years we worked together at CorePlus Credit Union. Her willingness to assume various roles on our management team spoke to her work ethics and dedication. We shared a love of flying and photography. Her camera work was outstanding. She also was a dedicated mother and we spoke often of her children.
May you rest in peace Eleanor.

I first met Eleanor as her flight instructor in the Navy Flying Club many decades ago. As her flying career progressed I got to know her, her father and daughters very well. The memories are numerous and wide ranging. It was nice that our paths in life crossed.

I also had the honor of working with Eleanor at CPCU for many years. Eleanor was a great leader, teacher, and a wonderful human being all around. Best of all she was a proud Scot! "May the road rise to meet you; May the wind be always at your back; May the sun shine warm upon your face; May the rains fall softly upon your fields." God Bless E.P.
