Elena "Nonna" Fiore

1936 - 2017

Waterford - On Nov. 13, 2017, Elena Fiore of Waterford entered into eternal peace.

She was born on May 25, 1936, in Bisignano, Italy, the fourth of eight children, to Salvatore and Rosaria (DeBartolo) Ritacco. As a young adult she immigrated to the United States with her parents and most of her siblings. Although her parents returned to Italy, she chose to stay in America in pursuit of a better life.

Elena held a few small jobs outside of the home but her true love was caring for her family. She enjoyed gardening and cooking; anyone who visited was always treated to a home cooked meal. She was lovingly known to many as Momma Fiore or Nonna. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to Italy to visit many extended family and friends.

Elena was predeceased by her son, Adriano Fiore, her sister, Marietta Ambrusecchio, and her brothers, Vincenzo, Angelo and Umile Ritacco. She leaves behind her brothers, Francesco, Giuseppe and Mario Ritacco; her daughter and son-in-law, Elvira Fiore-Labrecque and Daniel Labrecque of Waterford; daughter and son-in-law, Patrizia and Nicholas Olexy of Branford; her grandchildren, Christina, Natasha and Danielle Fiore, Marisa, Alicia and Daniel Labrecque, Gianluca and Giovanni Olexy; along with great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. We were all blessed to have had her in our lives, teaching us family values and sharing her Italian heritage that we will always cherish and pass on to future generations.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, at St. Paul's Church on Rope Ferry Road in Waterford. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private.
