Floyd was a good shipmate and one of my oldest friends. Our friendship began when we served together in Halfbeak in 1964 - 1965 and later, when we had families, our families were friends as well.

In the late '70s I visited Floyd when he was in Hawaii and I passed through on a ship. We visited in the '80s when Floyd was in Subic Bay aboard SSN Los Angeles and I was assigned there.

Years later after we had both retired from the Navy we spent tome together when I was in CT for a Halfbeak reunion and Floyd arranged for me to park my travel trailer at the Pawcatuck VFW.

In around 2011 I was in CT again and we went out and ate seafood together. The last time I saw Floyd was when he visited me in Texas for a few days in 2012.

Floyd left us too soon. I often think of him and wish we could drink a beer or two together once again.

Farewell old shipmate and friend.

Floyd and I became friends in early 1964 when I reported aboard USS Halfbeak where he was a TM2(SS) in the after torpedo room and I was a non-qual. Floyd was always fun and always a good and loyal friend.

He loved the Navy and the submarine force to which he devoted the best twenty-five years of his life.

I will always remember Floyd as one of my best lifelong friends.

Lee, I just now was informed of Floyd's demise. He was a true friend and the epitome of the word "Shipmate". I'll see you tomorrow at the service.

Lee and Family, our thoughts are with you in this time of loss. As you may remember Floyd and I served together on USS Thomas Edison SSBN (610 ) Blue where Floyd was the LPO for the Torpedo room and then Launcher LPO and I was his Department Head. I will miss Floyd's E-Mails and the opportunities to get together at the VFW when I have visited Pawcatuck sense moving to Vermont. May TMCS(SS) Windle's eternal patrol be blessed with Fair winds and Following Seas.

Royal & Susan Sheeley and family.
