Gail Long Obituary

New London - In Loving Memory of Gail Greenleaf Long

Gail was born Dec. 28, 1935, in New London to the late Karl and Abbie Greenleaf. Growing up alongside her sister Karla Greenleaf Marcille and her brother James Greenleaf Sr. (deceased). Gail attended and graduated from St. Mary's School and New London High School.

Gail was a lifelong resident of New London living in her family home and married Dan Long, in 1960 and together they built a loving home in New London. Their union was blessed with four children, Fr. Dan Long, Patricia (David), Michael (Penny), and Kathleen. Gail is also survived by her grandchildren, Lauren (Niall), Michael (Nicole), Phylicia, Camille, and Kayla. Gail was predeceased by her husband Dan; her brother and sister-in-law James and Patricia; and her brother-in-law Frank Marcille. Gail will be remembered and missed by her sister Karla Marcille who was not only her sister, but also her best friend. (When you saw one, you saw the other!) She will be remembered by her brother-in-law Billy (Claire) and sisters-in-law, Ethel and Nancy Long. She will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and her beautiful great-grandchildren, Owen, Eli, and Tatum. She will also be missed by the numerous friends, old and new, who were touched by her friendship and kindness.

Gail was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary's Parish in New London where she was a faithful and active volunteer for many, many years. When her children were grown, Gail went to daily Mass and formed her church family which was a gift to her. Recently Gail had become a beloved friend to many at St. Mary's Parish in Clinton, where her son Fr. Daniel is the Pastor.

Gail's legacy is one of kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication to family, friends, and community. Gail will be remembered for her generosity, sense of humor, and her resilience. Gail's life was a testament to the values of hard work, integrity, love, and she leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Many in New London remember her generosity whereas a cashier at the former California Fruit Store she would cover with her personal money, numerous friends' grocery bills when they were a little short. She never thought of the people patronizing California Fruit as customers, she always thought of them as friends!

Gail's family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, in St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, 10 Huntington St., New London. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers donation to, James A. Greenleaf Memorial Scholarship Fund, PO Box 420, Waterford, CT 06385.

As we say goodbye to Gail, let us remember the joy, wisdom, kindness, compassion and love she brought into our lives. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts, reminding us to live fully and love deeply, just as she did.

Rest in peace, Gail Greenleaf Long. You will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
