Helena M. Valentini

1949 - 2024

Quaker Hill - Helena M. Valentini, 74, of Quaker Hill, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Keeseville, N.Y., Oct. 13, 1949. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Barber) LaBounty, the second youngest of seven children.

Following a move to Connecticut, she graduated from NFA in 1967. After graduation, she attended the School of Radiological Technology and worked as an x-ray technician at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for 35 years, finally retiring in July of 2010.

Helena loved to spend time outside in her gardens and would often call her daughters to go flower shopping with her. She could often be found planning out where she wanted to plant new gardens and making lists of desired plants. She loved to spend time with her three grandchildren, walking through the gardens she tended and showing them the growing plants. When the weather was bad, she enjoyed watching Disney movies with them.

Helena was predeceased by her parents; her two brothers, Hubert and Robert LaBounty; two sisters, Judy Almilli and Janet Mero; her in-laws, Aldo and Raffela Valentini; and nephew Joseph Valentini. She is survived by her beloved husband of 31 years, Raymond Valentini; her daughter Laurie (Joe) McGuinness; her son Bryon (Kim) Thompson; her daughter Chelsie Bonneau; son Justin (Christina) Valentini; three grandchildren, Jack and Luke Thompson and Brianna Valentini; and two sisters, Mary Anne (Darwin) Bezio and Sue LaBounty.

Calling Hours will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Thomas L Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Avenue in New London. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, in St. Joseph's Church. Burial procession to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
