He was born on Aug. 5, 1935 in New London and had been married for over 45 years to the former Jean C. Douchette.
Educated in New London, Hugh had worked for over 45 years as a machinist with the Terry Corp in Niantic, at the former Arwood (Wyman-Gordon) plant in Groton and lastly at Pye & Hogan, LLC in Saybrook.
Besides his wife, Hugh is survived by his four children, Hugh Porter of Michigan, Jack Porter and his wife, Lisbeth, of Ledyard, Diana Porter of Pawcatuck, and Todd Porter and his wife, Margo, also of Pawcatuck; and eight grandchildren.
A Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 4, at the Avery- Stoddard Cemetery in Ledyard. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Byles- Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St.
Donations in his memory may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
