She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Max and Rebecca (Watman) Golinsky. She was raised in Colchester and Hartford and married her late husband in 1935. A long time resident of West Hartford, she was a lifetime member of Hadassah, B'nai B'rith, the Hebrew Ladies Aid Society, and a longtime member of Agudas Achim Synagogue, where she and her husband donated the Dave and Irene Weinbaum Social Hall.
Upon retirement, she and Dave spent summers at their Crescent Beach, Niantic home, and winters in their home at Hollybrook in Pembroke Pines, Fla. In recent years, due to failing health, she was cared for and lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Dr. Ronald Medwick.
Beloved by all of her family and friends, Irene is survived by her children, Barry Weinbaum and special friend Ruthan Wein, Dr. Stuart Weinbaum and his wife Margery, Merrill Weinbaum and his wife Rosalee, and Holly Medwick and her husband Dr. Ronald Medwick; her dear grandchildren, Martin and his wife Dianna, Daniel and his wife Tammy, Jonathan and his fiancée Christa, Joshua and significant friend Heather Smith, Michael Weinbaum, Stacey and her husband Tom Joyce, Jill and her husband Thomas Gilmore, Dr. Matthew and his wife Keren Medwick, and Heather and her husband Daniel Pesikoff; her cherished great-grandchildren, Nathan, Rachel and Hannah Weinbaum, Jake and Justin Weinbaum, David, Noah and Emily Gilmore, and Nadav David Medwick. Irene is also survived by her dear, younger brother, Herbert E. Golinsky and his wife Doris; and a sister-in-law, Shirley Richman. She will also be mourned by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Weinstein Mortuary, 640 Farmington Avenue, Hartford with Rabbi Carl Astor of Congregation Beth El of New London officiating. Following the service, interment will be in the Agudas Achim Cemetery, Cleveland Avenue Ext., Hartford. A memorial period will be observed Thursday following the funeral at the home of her son, Barry Weinbaum, 37 Kent Dr., Manchester, and thereafter at the home of her daughter, Holly Medwick, 15 Sunrise Trail, East Lyme.
