Jacomina Nicholas Obituary
She was born on June 24, 1935, in Ritthem, Holland, the daughter of Dr. Gerrit and Nanneke Dronkers DeRu and married Frederick S. Nicholas on July 31, 1958, in Rotterdam, Holland.
A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband, four sons, Frederick S. Nicholas III of Rye, N.Y., Gerrit Nicholas of Stonington, Jos Nicholas of Boston, and Anton Nicholas of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren.
Mrs. Nicholas was the founder of Comina, Inc., a retail home furnishings chain, a member of the Stonington Zoning Board of Appeals, and a former member of the board of directors of the Connecticut Children's Hospital. She was also on the Vestry of the Calvary Church in Stonington.
A memorial service and reception for the public will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 6, at the Calvary Church in Stonington.
The family asks, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the organization Autism Speaks (www.autismspeaks.org).
Byles-Groton Memorial Home, 310 Thames St., is in charge of arrangements.

I'm so sorry to read this sad news. Although we haven't seen each other for a long time, I still have warm memories from the time I spent in Stonington and all of you took great care of us.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Jacomina. She was very dear to me during my time at NLCC. Always smiling and upbeat. Jacomina will forever be in my thoughts and prayers.

With great sorrow I just read about Jacomina's death. She was a beautiful woman with a beautiful spirit.
She was my art student years ago, at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum. Jacomina was an exhuberant and joyful presence in the art classes, and that same vivacity was displayed in her paintings. Whenever I saw them later, exhibited at the various local exhibitions, I found them to be admirable.
It was obvious that Jacomina found great pleasure in the progress of her work and also in her family. May you find comfort in the memory of her life and her deeds.
