Jacqueline L. Flanagan

Mystic - Jacqueline L. Flanagan formerly of Mystic, and Naples, Fla. passed away Sunday, Nov. 23, 2025. She was born Dec. 8, 1930, as Jacqueline Joan Luzi to Duilio and Zenaide Luzi, She was married to Robert J. Flanagan Feb. 27, 1960. They spent many years touring the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia including the Galapagos Islands, Moscow, St. Petersburgh, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Xian.

She is survived by Stephen Flanagan (Russell Guerin) of Old Lyme; Darra Ryan (William) of Waterford, Michael Flanagan of San Diego, Calif.; as well as four grandchildren, Jonathan Verrengia Jenna Deitch (Evan), Michaela and Mitchell Ryan; and son-in-law John Verrengia. She is predeceased by her husband Robert Flanagan; and a daughter Julie Verrengia.

She was a parishioner at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church in New London, St. Mary's of Stonington Borough in Stonington and St. Leo the Great Church in Naples, Fla. Over the years she was employed at the Metropolitan Insurance Company and City Coal in New London, and Pfizer in Groton. She attended local schools including Chapman Tech in New London, The New London School of Business and Mitchell College.

For many years, She was in leadership in preparation of holiday dinners at her home in New London and Mystic inviting many relatives and friends.

Jackie was the mom who piled the neighborhood kids and cousins into the station wagon for daily trips to Ocean Beach in the summer and hosted backyard games and parties. She was a volunteer at St. Mary's school functions, trips, fund raisers and in stand by positions such as librarian. She was active in all the children's group organizations to include the scouts and in her attempts to interest her children in sports and culture. There were the picnics at Esker Point and countless other family get togethers. Of note is our family Ravioli making party for the Christmas Eve celebration that continues a tradition going back over 100 years. The get together with the family now tops 65 people.

As a grandmother, Noni, She adored her four grandchildren and instructed them in the importance of family, education and tradition. For over 25 years the whole family enjoyed the yearly trips to Caribbean resorts that created strong family bonds and lasting memories.

She will be missed. But we celebrate a life well lived. She will be buried with her weapon of choice, a wooden spoon.

lmpellitteri-Malia Funeral Services at 84 Montauk Avenue in New London is assisting with arrangements. Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Saint Mary's Church on Huntington Street in New London.
