James "Dan" Ahearn

1949 - 2020

Mesa, Ariz. - James "Dan" Ahearn, 70, formerly of Connecticut, died Tuesday, March 24, 2020, at his home in Mesa, Ariz., where he had resided since 2016. Born in Hornell June 18, 1949, he was the son of James and Audrey (Waight) Ahearn.

Dan retired from the U.S. Navy, serving his country from 1968 to 1972 as a Navy SEABEE and from 1976 to 1991 as a Chief Hull Maintenance Technician. He resided for many years in Connecticut and, following his naval retirement, he worked in the plumbing, heating and air-conditioning field before returning to New York state in 2004 and then Arizona since 2016.

He is survived by his spouse Violet Thompson Ahearn; his son, Brandon (Lydia) Ahearn of Waterford; four daughters, Samantha Ahearn of Clearfield, Pa., Rebecca (Jerry) Fethers of Ruskin, Fla., Shannon Ahearn of Waterford and Erin (Mike) McDonald of Waterford; his nephew whom he raised, Thomas Ahearn of Waterford; two sisters, Kathleen Ahearn of Bakersfield, Calif., and Diane Ahearn of Redlands, Calif.; two stepchildren, Catherine Doughty of Connecticut and Jack Caine of Arizona; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

The family of James "Dan" Ahearn will receive friends at 10 a.m. Aug. 6, at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY. followed by a Memorial Service with military honors. Final interment will be in the Bath National Cemetery, Bath, NY.

Dan's family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
