James Rice Obituary

Montville - James S. Rice "Pop-Pop", 69, of Oakdale, passed away on Jan. 15, 2012, after a short illness.

He was the beloved husband of Bonnie J. Rice, his wife of 53 years, who he loved dearly to the very end. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughter, Robin Driscoll (Joey), his son, Scott Rice (Beth), son, Michael Rice, and his daughter, Michele Plemons (Brandon). He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Sarah and Shaun Driscoll, Kelly and Damian Rice, Crystal, Brandon Jr., and Aaron Plemons; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel Stedman and Madyson Yeomans; and his sisters, Nancy Glendenning and Helen Miller.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Nancy Rice and a son, John Patrick.

He took great pride in his 44 year career at Electric Boat. He was a former member of the Oakdale Fire Co., and was involved in the Montville Little League.

Spending time at home with his family made Jimmy happy, and he will always be remembered for having an open door where family and friends were always welcome.

Per his wishes, all services will be private.

Of all the great folks I've known at Electric Boat, Jim was one of the best. He would offer help to anyone who needed it - the vice president, or the sweeper, all in the same friendly way. A true people person, before the title became popular. He accomplished so much, and worked so hard, but always was a gentleman. My condolences to Jim's family. Phil Scalise
