Jean Rose Marks

New London – Jean Rose Marks, 87, passed away peacefully in New London Nov. 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born in New London, Oct. 28, 1938, to the late Rosario and Lucy Marks.

Jean graduated from Chapman Tech in New London, and went on to marry an Air Force professional and travelled to: Massachusetts, Georgia, Florida, and U.K. England before settling down in New London.

Along the way, Jean had five children and was a busy mom raising her children and working "mother's hours" at the Bureau of Business Practice and Camelot Nursing Home. She continued to work after retirement as a laundry attendant until the age of 70.

Jean was a member of St. Joseph's Church since birth, and a member of the St. Joseph's Woman's Auxiliary Club. Jean was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Club in New London and was the president of the Woman's Auxiliary Club, raising money for children in need. Jean was known for her great 4th of July cookouts and Christmas parties - getting the family together for fun, food and family time was of utmost importance to her.

Jean is survived by her children: Roseann Marks of Waterford, Deborah Rafferty of Quaker Hill, John "Rusty" Stomberg and wife Teresa of Uncasville, Paula Fernado of Westerly, R.I., and Thomas Stomberg and his partner Taylor of Oakdale; in addition 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her parents, Rosario and Lucy Marks; and sister Carol Corbeil.

Jean's family would like to express our love and gratitude towards the wonderful health care professionals who cared for Jean for the last three years. You know who you are, and we love and appreciate You!

Visitation hour is from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Avenue, New London, followed by a Christian Mass to be held at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 149 Montauk Avenue, New London. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, New London. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jean's favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis TN 38101.
