Jeanne Laura Bonin

Niantic - Jeanne Laura (Gobeil) Bonin, 82, passed away Oct. 29, 2025, in Niantic with her family by her side. She was born in 1943 to Edgar and Laura Gobeil in New Bedford, Mass., where she spent a happy childhood growing up with her four siblings and a large extended family of many cousins, aunts and uncles.

Jeanne met her beloved husband, Richard "Dick," in New Bedford and they were married in 1964. Jeanne had recently graduated from St. Ann's School of Nursing and when she and Dick, moved to Connecticut. She began her career as a nurse at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital. She had a special caring touch as a nurse that had a positive impact on the lives of her patients and colleagues alike. When Jeanne and Dick were blessed with the arrivals of their three sons, she took a break from her nursing career to focus on her young family.

During those years, she spent time as a Cub Scout den mother, classroom room mother, religious education teacher, and as a dedicated volunteer at St. Agnes church.

As her children grew, Jeanne returned to nursing, first at Nutmeg Pavilion, and later at Allergy Associates. As an allergy nurse, Jeanne cared for hundreds of patients who regularly visited her office. She formed warm and lasting bonds with her patients and their families, whom she never forgot. Through the decades, Jeanne was a regular volunteer at the Garde Arts Center and with Care and Share of East Lyme, where she served as a board member and vice president.

Jeanne's greatest joy in life was her family, and that joy grew exponentially with the arrivals of her eight grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. She was happiest when the whole family came to town and her cozy house was filled to the brim. Summer visits were spent at the beach and on her porch, and holiday visits meant gathering around the table and enjoying her wonderful cooking.

Other pleasures in Jeanne's life were gardening, walking with neighbors, cooking, baking, and sharing a glass of wine with friends. She made friends everywhere she went, and was blessed with many lifelong friendships. Jeanne and Dick enjoyed many evenings with friends at the Harkness summer music series, and with their gourmet club. They also loved to travel, and later in life, Jeanne continued to have many adventures with her travelling companions.

She is survived by her three sons, Marc (Michelle), Matthew (Lesley) and David (MaryJo); along with grandchildren: Elizabeth, Michael, Stephen, Cassie, Alex, Lucy, Marcus, and Jack; and two great-granddaughters, Leighton and Georgia. She is also survived by her brother Roland Gobeil; and sister Laura Brook. Jeanne was predeceased by her parents; her husband Richard; and her brothers, Paul and George.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the Thomas L. Neilan and Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 22 Haigh Avenue in Niantic. All are invited to join the family at a luncheon following the service.
