Waterford - John W. Greene Sr., 92, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022, at Fairview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Groton.

John was born Feb. 3, 1930, in New London the son of the late Merle V. and Ruth A. Powers Greene. He married Louise Pennella Malone June 21, 1991, in North Stonington.

He worked at Pfizer for 45 years as a Lab Tech. He later worked as a very successful Real Estate Agent in the area. He was an avid craftsman and carpenter. Whether doing construction on his properties or making bird feeders and toys for his family, he was a multi-talented man. He loved to play chess, golf and fish. He was very proud of his family and was known for his inquisitive nature. He was always curious about life and about the people he met.

Besides his loving wife Louise, he is survived by a son John W. Greene Jr. of Norwich; daughter Wendy Greene Burnett (Stephen) of Mystic; four grandchildren, Jennifer Greene McMillian, Robert L. Greene (Nena), Elizabeth Martin (Ryan), Lauren Burnett Craven (Andrew); and four great-grandchildren, James, Wyatt, Sam and Finn

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his first wife Doris Johnson Greene; son Kerry Greene; two sisters, Emily Greene Gross and Norma Greene Buhren.

A Celebration of Life will be celebrated at a place and time to be announced. Interment will be private in St. Mary Cemetery, New London. There are no calling hours. Thomas L. i am the former New Haven Chess Champion. John and I played many times in Mystic at Bartleby's Cafe. I could always count on John for a good laugh or two. He beat me me shooting pool and was fantastic at chess. Heaven will welcome him with open arms.

I knew John from Pfizer in the 30 years I spent there. He was a very friendy and helpful person. Like many other employees, he was also my realtor and I bought my first house thru him. My condolences to his family, he will be deeply missed.
