In addition to Karen, John is survived by his daughters, Amy Schmardel and her husband, Walter, Jacqueline and Kimberly and her partner, Michael Collette. Jackie gave John three amazing grandchildren who survive him, Dominic and Nicole Walmsley and Emmiley Genua, his "Turtle". Nicole bestowed upon her grandfather his only great-grandson, Aiden Graham. John is also survived by his niece, Renee Crawford; and his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Margo L'Heureux; as well as several cousins and Godchildren.

I was saddened to hear about John's passing at the UNC reunion last weekend in Groton. I worked with John for 14 years at UNC and always enjoyed his company. Karen was my real estate agent when I bought my house in Ledyard in 1986. I will remember John fondly and extend my best wishes to Karen and his family.

I am so sorry to have just found out about John's passing. I worked with him for 14 years at UNC, and enjoyed his company. Karen was my real estate agent when I bought my house in Ledyard in June 1986. I will always recall both of them fondly.

It is with great sadness that I send this note of condolence. It is fortunate that you could be with him at his time of passing. God bless him, and all of you. They say the spirit stays around until he feels everyone is ok, and I'm sure he is. You were there for me and I am here for you if you need anything, or just someone to talk to.

I've only known John ten short months but we talked a lifetime of stories. I have been blessed with the gift of meeting and coming to know this man of intelligence.
To Karen, John's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren I extend condolences but also my sincere thank you for such an awesome "Friend".
One of our last conversations included how happy he (John) was when he was able to attend the recent high school graduation.
I was in hospital when John was moved and was unable to learn where John was so to Karen I'm sorry I wasn't there toward the last days. Rest in peace John and keep an eye on the Sox.
