John Valentine Obituary

Groton - John R. Valentine, 85, of Noank, died peacefully at his home on Groton Long Point Rd. on Sunday, April 17, 2011.

He was born Feb. 18, 1926 in Braddock, Pa., the son of John and Edith (Ludwig) Valentine.

Following two years in the Navy during World War II, he earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. From there, he was employed in a series of positions of increasing responsibility in the nuclear divisions at Westinghouse and Electric Boat. He finished his career at Yardney Electric in Pawcatuck and ProtoPower in Groton

Following retirement, he enjoyed summers in Noank, and winters with friends in Lake Worth, Fla. Throughout his life he was an active participant and fan of sports, and a supporter of Mystic Little League. Throughout his life, John spent much of his time designing and building homes and applying his engineering skills with creativity to a variety of projects.

He was a devoted husband to Kathleen (King) for 60 years before her death in 2008, and was predeceased by one son, Martin Valentine.

He was a dedicated father survived by sons, John W. Valentine of Northfield, Vt., and James Valentine of North Stonington.

A private service will be held by family members.

Jimmy, Sorry to hear about your Dads passing. I remember many fun times with him on our Myrtle Beach golf trips. Again my condolences.
