Jonathan Glenn Obituary
He was born on July 13, 1990, in New Haven, the precious son of Paula (DeMatteo) Glenn and Norman E. Bersing of Old Lyme and James C. Glenn III, of California.
Jonathan was a dean's list student at Lasell College in Newton, Mass. Jonathan graduated from Lyme-Old Lyme High School in 2008, a member of a tightly knit class of friends who are a family to him and each other. Jonathan will forever be remembered for his beautiful smile and contagious laugh. Jonathan was a well-loved contributing member of the Techno Ticks robotics team and a Life Scout with Troop 26 where he gained his love and admiration of nature. Jonathan traveled throughout North America visiting nearly every national park and enjoyed hiking and exploring Devil's Hopyard State Park in East Haddam whenever he had the opportunity.
In addition to his parents, Jonathan is survived by his siblings, Jessica Bersing of Old Lyme, Sean Bersing of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, James Glenn IV of Brooklyn, N.Y., Wesley Glenn of California, and Nathan Bersing of Old Lyme; his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Kitty DeMatteo of Branford and his paternal grandmother, Joyce Glenn of California; and a close, extensive, and loving family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, in Christ The King Church, McCurdy Road, Old Lyme. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Ave., Niantic.

Jonathan was not just a cousin to me, he was a brother. He was at my house every single day since I was little. We did so much together and I can't even begin to count the wonderful memories that we had. He never failed to make me laugh and smile even if I was upset! He always had the funniest jokes and was the life of the party. He could walk into a room and he would light it up. When he smiled and laughed you could tell it was coming straight from his heart. He encouraged me all throughout my life to follow my dreams and he was the perfect role model. Whenever I was upset he would hug me and lift me upside down until we were laughing so hard we were out of breath. I will never forget him and all the memories we shared. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of him. I love and miss Jonathan more than words can explain. He was the best big brother that I could have ever asked for. <3 I cannot wait until the day when I can see him again and greet him with a "Hi Jon Jon!" and have him reply saying "Hi little Nole!" <3

Many of my childhood memories include Jimmy and Jonathan, as they spent many Summers in California. Jon always looked forward to going to the beach out here. I remember celebrating his birthday a few times there, which for our family was an all-day event.
We had also taken Jimmy and Jonathan to a water park one day, and the challenge of simply getting to the water park was an adventure in itself. :) Jon didn't care. I don't remember him ever complaining much about anything, as kids typically do.
He was a great person, I wish I had known him as an adult. There's clearly an overwhelming amount of love and support amongst his family and friends, and it goes without saying that he will be missed.
Thanks for all the fun times Jon...you're only a memory away. <3

My son Adam first met Jon at orientation at Lasell and they became like brothers. I cannot thank his family enough for blessing us with such a wonderful friend. He came to stay with us for Adam's birthday last month and I was overcome by his ability to make everyone feel comfortable when they were around him and have wonderful memories of him for which I will always be grateful. We think of him and all of his family everyday and hope you know there will always be someone to talk to if you need us. He made our lives richer just knowing him. Jon had a one of a kind personality. The kind of personality that would brighten your day, even in the darkest of hours. Knowing Jonny Boy for the years that I did, he really opened my eyes and thoughts up to alot of things. I think its safe to say he did that to every soul he met. Jon also had the strength to never say no, wheather it was a chore, a favor, or anything that someone needed a helping hand in. He lived his life to the fullest, wheathe he was cruisin' the backstreets of OL in the VERY sound-expectant, little red Beamer, or just staying cozy in the house with all of us on a snowey day, making all of us delicious hot cocoa. One thing i'll miss the most about my big brother, was the bond we shared, we could confess to eachother about anything, no matter how serious. There was nothing that we ever felt like we should or had to keep from eachother, and if we ever did have those secrets, it wouldnt be long before we would be laughing and joking about how silly the secret or phobia was. I just hope that even in the afterlife we can still share that bond buddy. You're in our hearts and prayers and will be sincerely missed by anyone who you ever reached out to. <3 <3 <3.

No words exist to express the sadness we feel over the loss of Jon. It is overwhelming. He was such a nice boy. Polite and considerate. He had a friendly ease about him that made him a joy to be around. I'm grateful he and Pat were friends and a part of our lives.

Jonathan is a light in everyone's life. I was blessed to have been "Stepmom" and have so many wonderful memories to treasure over the years. What a great Son and brother I have known him to be. The jokes, the smiles, the silliness getting to watch him grow up during the summer visits to California. Wonderful. With his warm, loving family it is no wonder that he grew up to be such a special person.I love the special connection between he and Jimmy and watching him with his younger siblings (Nathan and Wesley)when we came to stay with the family summer 2010. I have many fond memories of Jon from over the years at lolhs. He was one of my homeroom students. What I remember most was his friendly demeanor and warm smile. He would come in early to homeroom, just to chat. As a teacher, it made my day. He will be missed. My prayers are with his family.

Clearly words can not express the sorrow we feel. Jon was one of the first boys my son met when arriving at Lasell almost 4 years ago.From their first meeting they became fast friends and even ended up as roommates this semester. I will be eternally grateful for the kindness and friendship Jon gave to my son.

It was my true pleasure to have had Jonathan as a student at Lasell College. Always present, always in tune, always performing to the fullest of his potential. He was a very - VERY - good student. When I would run into him on campus in the semesters and years after I'd had him in class, he always had a beaming smile and a geneaous and hearfelt "Hi!" to offer - and I just know he meant it with his heart. What a terrific young man. If I'd been privileged to have a son, I could not have wished for a young man as special as Jonathan. I am deeply saddened by his loss but know in faith that the Lord has bestowed on Jonathan the ultimate reward that we all seek. May he rest in peace and enjoy the fruits of God's love forever in Jesus name.
