Joseph Penrose Obituary
Joseph was born June 28, 1929, in Upper Darby, Pa., to Joseph A. and Alice (Urmson) Penrose. Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Michelle (Capone) Penrose, the love of his life, whom he married Sept. 12, 1953, in Groton.
Joseph grew up in a private boarding school, Girard College in Philadelphia. Immediately after graduation in 1947, Joe joined the military; first serving in the U.S. Navy (1947-1956) as an engineman first class, then in the United States Air Force before retiring in 1969, as master sergeant.
Joe was employed by Electric Boat as an outside machinist and then for the Submarine Base until his retirement.
Joe is survived by three sons, Joseph Jr. and his wife Susan, and Michael and Gerard; and a daughter, Ann Penrose, and their spouses; two sisters, Doris Shaner and Kay Canton; as well as eleven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, May 12, at St. Mary Cemetery, 600 Jefferson Avenue, in New London. For more on Joe and to sign the online register, visit www.byles.com.

I remember when I met Joseph through his granddaughter, he was always making funny jokes and had a great sense of humor and a kind hearted man. He was always nice and caring to everyone. I will never forget when we would make jokes and he always smiled and had something to say back. He will dearly be missed. RIP
