Julie Maisch Obituary

Groton - Julie Colety Maisch, 97, passed away peacefully Sept. 19, 2025, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born Sept. 25, 1927, in Larchmont, N.Y., Julie was a beacon of joy and love throughout her life.

Always up for a "funsy!", Julie embarked on a meaningful career after earning a B.A. from Boston University and an M.S.W. from Smith College. She worked as a licensed social worker in New York City before moving to Groton, where she continued her passion for helping others at the Child and Guidance Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut. Later, she devoted herself to raising her children, Jennifer and Stephen, filling their lives with adventures and explorations.

A woman of many interests, Julie was an avid skier, windsurfer and tennis player. She practiced Tai Chi, honed her skills in Chinese brush painting, and cherished playing her harp. Julie's commitment to her community was ever-present; she was actively involved with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, where she made history as its first female board president and ran the Young Artists' Competition for more than 20 years.

Julie was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church in Groton. She and Jack were longtime members of Shennecossett Yacht Club, also in Groton.

Julie was a contributor to numerous community activities, and her home of 35 years at 42 Circle Avenue in Eastern Point was a hub of warmth and activity, hosting everything from friends' gatherings to watch activities on the Thames River, family reunions, her craft club and bridge club, organizations' receptions, and political fundraisers.

She is survived by her children, Jennifer Maisch (Mike Maltaverne) and Stephen Maisch (Colour Maisch); and grandchildren, Bode and Hunter; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Julie was preceded in death by her loving husband, John "Jack" Maisch of 60 years; her sisters, Barbara Amatruda and Joan Martin; and brothers, Jack and Richard Colety.

A memorial service is being planned for the summer of 2026 in Connecticut, where friends and family will gather to celebrate her remarkable life.

Julie was a wonderful person. I knew her through the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra when she served on the Board. She was such a good friend to me when we served on that Board together. I take comfort she is now reunited with Jack. Enjoy Heaven Julie. You deserve perpetual happiness.

My condolences to the Maisch family. Julie and Jack were good friends of Marcia and I and we enjoyed many times together at the Yacht Club and involved with the Eastern Point social activity.
