Kathleen Jacey Obituary
Kathleen was born Dec. 14, 1935, to Fred P. Jacey and Genevieve (Wisniewski) Jacey and resided in Waterford. Kathleen graduated from Williams Memorial Institute in 1952, and then attended Grace-New Haven School of Nursing becoming a Registered Nurse. She then went on to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing science from Boston College and a master's in Rehabilitative Nursing and Education from Boston University.
After a decade of Nursing and Nursing Instructor positions in Connecticut and Boston, Kathleen settled into a long and rewarding career with the State of Connecticut Bureau of Rehabilitation Services as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and Supervisor.
Kathleen dedicated time to numerous hobbies and interests including gardening, cooking, mushroom hunting, karate, guitar, bird watching and travel. Always accompanied by beloved dogs, Kathleen was an avid lover of animals and the natural world. After retiring she dedicated time to caring for and educating her nephews and also traveled the world visiting over 30 countries.
She served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a longtime parishioner of St. Mary Star of the Sea in New London.
Kathleen is survived by her sister-in law, Irene Jacey of New London; nephew and wife, Paul and Tracey Jacey of Noank; and nephew and wife John and Mary Jacey of Arlington, Mass. Kathleen has five beloved grandnephews, Adam Jacey, Sam Jacey, Ben Jacey, Calvin Jacey, and Weston Jacey; and one beloved grandniece, Elena Jacey, as well as numerous first and second cousins. She is preceded in death by her brother, Michael Jacey.
Calling Hours will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 24, at Thomas L. Neilan & Sons, 12 Ocean Avenue, New London, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Star of the Sea, 10 Huntington Avenue, New London. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Kathleen's memory to Saint Mary's Star of the Sea or a charity of your choice.
