Kelly Rathbun Obituary

Uncasville - Kelly Keith "Kel" Rathbun Jr., 32, passed away unexpectedly due to a COVID related illness Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021.

Born in Norwich March 5, 1989, he was the son of Kelly K. Rathbun Sr. of Voluntown and Lisa A. (Trolan) Latham of Uncasville.

Kelly grew up in Uncasville and graduated from Norwich Technical High School in 2007. He was a talented mechanic that could fix most anything. He had a passion for motocross and raced competitively for many years. Among other things, he loved skateboarding, snowboarding, mountain biking, and camping, especially at his family's camp on Highland Lake in Maine. He especially loved bonfires with his friends and family.

Kelly was an extraordinary person with the biggest heart. He positively impacted countless people throughout his life. He encouraged his loved ones and showed them support in whatever paths they chose to pursue. He was a genuine person with the profound ability to listen intently and make those around him feel heard and accepted. He had an aptitude to connect with others - no matter who they were, he was always willing to help anyone in need. He will be forever loved and missed greatly by all those who knew him, especially his closest friends who he referred to as "his boys."

Kelly is survived by his father, Kelly Sr.; his mother Lisa, her husband Don Latham; his sister Samantha; his brother Hunter Latham. His two girls, longtime companion and girlfriend, soon to be the mother of their child, Katelyn St. Jean and his beloved cat Dutchez "Kitty," who he rescued from the Central Village racetrack while racing one weekend. He is also survived by his Uncle Brian and Sadie, as well as many other uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 17, at the Woyasz and Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road Uncasville.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, with reception immediately following at the Montville Veterans of Foreign Wars, 91 Raymond Hill Road, Uncasville.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Kelly's name to any children's charity of the donor's choice as that is what he would want.

"We love you, Kel."
