Kenneth Rainey Obituary
Born on June 26, 1958, in Oakdale, La., Kenneth "Kenny Paul" was the son of Hildred and Myrtle Lee Rainey.
Following high school, he went on to obtain a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Southern University. He late received a masters in business administration at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute.
Kenneth spent his career working for the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) for the past 34 years. His tenure started at the sound lab division in New London, and his later tenure was spent at the Newport, R.I. division.
He was a long time, faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church of New London, where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board and was involved in several other ministries.
Kenneth loved to give back to the community, he served as President on the board of the Historical Black College Alumni, Inc. (HBCA), Wishful Master of the Jeptha Lodge #11 of New London, he was a member of the Pure Worship NUWC choir, student tutor for the Shiloh Teaching Accountability and Responsibility (STAR) program, and a member of the African American Outreach Program at NUWC.
He is survived by his adoring wife of over 26 years, Linda Rainey and two daughters, Linecia and Kenita Rainey. He also leaved behind his mother, Myrtle and father, Hildred Rainey of Oakdale, La.; three sisters, Jacqueline Clipps and Marie (Toni) Henry of Houston, Tex; six brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and God children.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church, 1 Garvin St., New London. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time service at the church.
Flowers and sentiments can be sent to the church. In addition, donations can be made to the Shiloh Baptist Church or the Cancer Center for Detection & Prevention.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Lester Gee Funeral Home, 108 Blinman St., New London.

Dear Rainey family, Although I never met Ken, I was part of the NUWC family in the early 1980s. I know that you will be strenghened by the word of truth which says, " For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so GOD will bring with HIM those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the LORD, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the LORD, will not proceed those who have fallen asleep. For the LORD Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of GOD, and the dead in Christ will rise first. (1 Thess 4:14-16). My sister, be assured, you will see Bro. Ken again.

Ken was instrumental in exposing young people in New London County to HBCUs(Historically Black Colleges and Universities)

I started working with Kenny in 2004 and was always impressed with the level of professionalism in which he carried himself. Kenny never lost his cool. During times of stress his calm cool demeanor was an inspiration. He treated everyone with respect and earned theirs in return. He was a great man. He will be sorely missed. Please accept my deepest sympathies during these difficult times and take some comfort in the fact that Kenny had a positive influence on many people’s lives during his 51 years on this earth.

I remember many years ago when I first met Ken, he was dressed as a frog for Halloween - You certainly found your prince back then! Both of you created a wonderful life together, including having two daughters to share in your joy. I first met you during our Bradlees days, and our paths have crossed periodically over the years. Add my name to a very long list of those who knew Ken, worked with him and will remember him. We started way back in New London at the Lab there and continued on into this sojourn in Rhode Island.Having lost a father, I know some, I say some, of the sorrow that descends on loved ones left behind. But I know that Ken was and is a Christian, one of the faithful who has gone to his reward. We,who are left behind and also know the Savior will one day be reunited with Ken and OH that will be glory!
But for now, I know your faith will carry you through this time of grief and sorrow.

Dear Linda, Linecia and Kenita, remember God is an awesome God and he reigns. I feel your pain, as my family and myself had to experience a loss of this magnitude just a couple of months ago. Losing a loved one is never something you get over, but with time, you do learn to accept that what God has in store for that person in his heavenly home is far greater than anything they could have experienced here on earth. Ken didn't work in my group at NUSC but I could tell right away that he was a very special person and I really enjoyed talking to him whenever we ran into each other. We will all miss him.

I met Ken almost 30 years ago on the R/V Athena, where we spent two continuous weeks within fifty feet of each other with no showers underway. Almost thirty years later, as my acting supervisor, he had to caution me for a workplace incident. In both situations Ken was a class act. Ken treated everyone with respect, and got it back in return. I hope there is some comfort to take in knowing that we all thought the most of him and will miss him. Norman Toplosky.

I only knew Kenny for a short time, as he rode in our Easy Street van pool. He was fine person, always willing to take the wheel and drive us home. I 'm very sorry for your loss. Kenny will be missed.

I only worked with Kenny for about 6 months last year (before I went on maternity leave), but you could tell right away that he was one of the good guys and he had a good sense of humor. He will surely be missed. His family is in my thoughts and prayers.

I have many great memories of those years we were neighbors (e.g. Ken's battle royale with the snake in the back yard...Ken sure showed that snake who was boss).
