Liam A. Kennedy

East Lyme - Staff Sergeant Liam A. Kennedy, a proud soldier of the United States Army, passed away at age 23 after a lengthy illness in which he continued to show strength and resilience. Born in June 2002 to James and Petra (Robin) Kennedy, he graduated from East Lyme High School, where he played lacrosse and ran indoor track. Liam was an EMT and a member of the Niantic Fire Department.

In 2020, shortly after graduation, Liam joined the United States Army as an infantryman. After completing advanced individual training at Fort Benning, he was assigned to Cherokee Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment in Germany. During this assignment, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, and the Armed Forces Service Medal, among numerous other certificates of achievement and accolades.

Liam was an incredibly multi-faceted individual with a profound sense of humor, an adventurous spirit, and who was a natural protector. He lit up every room he entered, and his perseverance was unwavering. Liam deeply loved his family, including his Army family, his friends, music and fishing.

Liam is survived by his parents; beloved brothers, Parker and Spencer; the love of his life, Jaime; and countless friends and relatives, including his grandparents; all of his treasured cousins; aunts and uncles; his close childhood friend; and all of his brothers from Cherokee Company.

Liam's family is grateful for the time they had with him and they will be forever saddened by his passing. The family is thankful to his friends, his brothers from his Army Unit in Germany, his cadre at the SRU, the entire medical team at Walter Reed, the NIH, Smilow, YNH and his hospice team for their outstanding medical care and support.

The Brothers Three will always be.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 48 Grand Street, Niantic. Memorial Services will be private.
