Lisa Ann Downing

1962 - 2021

Branford - Lisa Ann Downing, 58, formerly of New London, passed away peacefully March 25, 2021. Born in Chillicothe, Ohio, June 20, 1962, she was the daughter of the late Ray M. Downing and Elizabeth A. Metcalf. Lisa grew up in New London county, and spent her teenage years in Portland, Maine, with her grandparents Byard and Rowena (Mulholland) Metcalf.

Lisa was an avid caregiver for animals from reptiles to birds, cats and dogs, including a variety of animals that the Humane Society could not find homes for. She welcomed them into her home and provided all the necessary love and care they needed. She was a person that had no limitations or restrictions on how she lived her life nor how she loved those around her.

Lisa is survived by two sisters, Anna Porter and Denee Downing, both of Ohio; two brothers, Ray Downing of Clinton and Stephen Metcalf of Manchester, N.H. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her family, Lisa is also survived by two remarkable gentlemen who have been part of her life for over 30 years, Edward Chuplis of Florida and John Ratnecht of New London.

Lisa's family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the heroic staff at Yale New Haven Hospital for ensuring that Lisa received the best care possible.
