Marc was born in Meriden on Jan. 12, 1943, the son of Dick and Helene (Smith) Cummings, both deceased. He was predeceased by his beloved brother George III.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Eileen (Davey) Cummings; and six children, Marc Jr., Laura and her husband, A.O. Lucy, Bridget, Denis, Maeve and Conor. He also leaves behind his sister, Gail, and her husband, Frank Docktor; four nieces and nephews, eight grand nieces and nephews and his grandson, Phinneus John Lucy.
Marc grew up in Old Lyme and was a graduate of the Holderness School and Colby College. He spent much of his career working for family businesses, including the Viking Glass Company, GR Cummings Construction and the Claremont Corporation.
Marc was a very funny man who could talk to anyone. A big hockey fan and player, he instilled the love of the game in his sons. He also loved to travel and brought his children on as many trips as possible. He was an avid reader, mostly of history and classic mysteries, and a big fan of black and white movies. But first and foremost, he was a great Dad and loving husband who will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 23, at the Old Lyme Senior Center at 26 Town Woods Road.

I would like to send my deepest sympathy to Marc Cummings family. I had the pleasure of working for Marc in the office at the Claremont Corporation from 1999-2002. He was a pleasure to work with. He always had a smile and a joke or two. I would always come into work and find a large box of microwave popcorn on my desk and we always would share a bag of the popcorn at afternoon break. You were one in a million, Marc! I'll miss you dearly.

I met Marc as a small girl and even though that was many, many years ago, I still remember it vividly. He and Grandpa Bud made a great team at Viking and I know Grandma Goldie and Grandpa Bud loved him dearly. I got to know Marc a little more when he came to Grandma Goldie's funeral. His expression of love and respect for Grandpa just days before his death touched Grandpa Bud's heart, and mine as well. You are a lucky family to have had such a wonderful man in your lives. I and my family will pray for comfort during this terribly difficult time, but will also pray for lots of happy thoughts of times past.
