Marcia Chappell Obituary

Waterford - Marcia (Hinrichs) Chappell, widow of Frank Huntington Chappell Jr., of Waterford and Essex, died the first week of July at the age of 94.

She was the only child of Gladys Guiles and Robert Paul Hinrichs, a career Naval officer.

She served in the Red Cross in North Africa and Italy during World War II and married Frank Chappell in 1946. After the marriage they moved to Colorado City, Texas, where Frank was engaged in his family's cattle ranch. They moved to the larger university community of Lubbock, Texas, where they lived for almost 25 years raising their three children, Jean Ellwood Chappell, Robert Hinrichs Chappell, and Frank Huntington Chappell IV.

Marcia and Frank moved to Waterford in 1971, and then to Essex Meadows, Essex, in 2000.

She is survived by her daughter, Jean "Jenny" Way and husband, Edson, of Lubbock,Texas; and sons, Robert and wife, Rose, of Taos, N.M., and Frank of Fairfax, Calif. She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Interment will be a private family service at Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, Essex, CT 06425, St. James Episcopal Church, New London, CT 06320, Forgotten Felines Shelter, Westbrook, CT 06498, or to a charity of your choice.

Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Chappell was a wonderfully kind woman. She and Mr. Chappell were always there for my family and I will miss her, as I do him.
