Marjorie Lineweber Obituary

Canterbury - Marjorie Frances (Marquardt) Lineweber, 85, of 31 Little River Lane, Canterbury, passed away on May 28, 2016, with her family by her side.

Marjorie was born on Jan. 21, 1931, in New London, to Percy and Ruth (Douton) Marquardt.

Marjorie married the love of her life, Robert Joseph Lineweber, in February 1950. Marjorie spent her years of marriage raising seven children in Groton and later in Ledyard. She also opened up their home to many foster children. As her children grew older, Marjorie explored her own educational opportunities and achieved undergraduate degrees from Mohegan Community College and Skidmore College. She later received her master's degree in human development and family therapy from the University of Rhode Island in 1984.

Her other notable achievements during her years of work included becoming the first woman constable on the Ledyard Police Force in 1976. Marge had also previously worked for local Head Start and TVCCA programs. Marge loved traveling with family and friends and often recounted with fondness a cross country trip with a girlfriend to bring her son to Stamford, as well as traveling to many elder hostels. This was perhaps the exploration that sparked her desire for future adventures.

Later in life Marge became a Deacon for Christ Episcopal Church in Norwich, and was also active with the Red Hat Society.

Marjorie is survived by her children, David Lineweber and Catherine Voegtlin of Hubbard, Ore., Mark Lineweber and Ann Marie Jansen of Waterford, Gretchen and Robert Young of Canterbury, Erick Lineweber of Griswold, and Marjorie Lineweber and Tracy Brown of Ashaway, R.I. Marjorie is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildrenwho she treasured deeply.

Marjories husband, Robert, passed away one day before her on May 27, 2016. She was also predeceased by two children, Susan Linda and Robert Edward and her sister, Lucille McCarthy.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2016, at Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Votuntown Road, Jewett City. A Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, at Christ Episcopal Church, 78 Washington St., Nowrich. Mr. and Mrs. Lineweber were incredible people. Everyone who ever stepped in their home or met them knew that they were extended family of their own and were treated extremely well. Mrs. Lineweber always made time to talk with you and opened her home. She will be forever missed anyone who knew her and especially her family.

Gretchen, my sincere condolences on the loss of your parents. My mother, worked with your Dad many years ago when I was living abroad and was very fond of him and spoke very highly of him. May your memories of your parents be a ray of eternal hope to you and yours.

My sincerest condolences on your double loss. Back in the 50s and 60s, my parents and yours were part of the "tropical fish club" in SE Connecticut. We'd usually visit about once a month, your place in Groton or ours in Norwich, and my brother Marty and I would go outside to play with Susan and Bobby while our parents talked fish! I went into the Marine Corps in 1964 and lost track of all that. MY parents passed in the 80s. I last spoke with your mom and dad maybe 15 years ago, and learned of Susan and Bobby's passing. But way back then, happy times. Prayers for everyone.

My deepest sympathy to you all. I went to church for many years with Marge and her smiling face and always, always giving me a hug. I was so happy to see her become a deacon. She was so happy when I brought in pictures of the stone wall and walkway that Marge built for us when we built an addition for my Mom. You were truly blessed with an awesome woman for a Mom, Grandmother, Great Grandmother. She truly will be missed. With much love and sympathy.

to the family of Marge and Bob,
Please know that your family is forever loved and please know Mom and Dad loved you so much, Marge often told me of everyone's accomplishments, and stories from your childhood over watching the foodnetwork channel.
Marge, thank you for sharing your amazing stories with me and allowing me to be a part of your life for this past year. It was truly a pleasure to know you, your husband, and the whole family. We shared many laughs. Marge, you were truly like another grandmother to me. Gretchen and Bob, thank you for allowing me to come into your home and work with you. You and your family are way stronger than any of you will ever realize.
