Mark Stanton Obituary

Bloomfield - Mark E. Stanton, 62, of Bloomfield, formerly of Norwich, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Sept. 21, 2021. He was born March 23, 1959, in New London, to Charles and Mildred (Golding) Stanton. Mark graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1977, after which he married his best friend and soul mate, Jeanne (Farr) Stanton. They would remain married for the next 43 years, until his passing.

Mark went to work for Electric Boat before transferring to DXC Technologies (formerly Computer Sciences Corporation), where he would remain until his death. He had an affinity for remembering numbers, and he could often be seen doing logic and math puzzles, or helping his children with their math homework.

A lifelong sports fan, Mark had a passion for the Boston Red Sox, and enjoyed bringing his children to both Fenway Park as well as local Minor League Baseball stadiums. In recent years, he enjoyed playing Fantasy Football with a group of his coworkers. He was also an avid bowler for many years, participating in leagues and tournaments in both Groton and Norwich.

Above all else, Mark fiercely loved his family. He loved traveling with his wonderful wife, and they enjoyed many long weekends and vacations together. Recently they enjoyed a cruise to Alaska together, fulfilling a lifelong dream. He was an example of what a loving husband and father looks like, and he always went out of his way to show love and affection to his three children, as well as his three grandchildren, who adored their "Papa".

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Jeanne (Farr) Stanton of Bloomfield; his three children, Jessica (Daniel) Guglielmo of Middlefield, Erika (Riley) Streigle of Bloomfield, and James (Kerrie) Stanton of Gales Ferry; three beautiful grandchildren, Abigail, Rocco, and Ellerie; sisters, Nancy (Allen) Gagnier of Salt Lake City, Utah, Irene (Richard) Peropat of Norwich, Louise (Richard) Potter of Montville, Debbie (Richard) Goldman of Montville, and Linda (Daniel) Scroggins of Groton; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by a nephew, Kenneth Adair.

The family will receive loved ones from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Thomas L. Neilan and Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave, New London. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Community Baptist Church, 950 Gold Star Hwy, Groton. A brief reception will follow at the same location. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mark's memory to The Jimmy Fund, PO Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284, or to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116.

Sending our deepest sympathy to the family at this time. I never talked to Mark much but could tell he was just watching out for his family and extended family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
