Michael Deshefy Obituary

Uncasville - It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of Michael "Mike" Deshefy, 61, a lifelong resident of Montville, who passed away June 28, 2023, in New Haven. Born in Norwich, he was the son of Elmer and Barbara (Schrader) Deshefy of Montville. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 37 years, Cynthia (O'Hare) Deshefy; two sons, Nick Deshefy of Denver, Colo., and Adam Deshefy of Enfield; and sisters, Paula (Tom) MacDonald of Westbrook, and Linda Deshefy of Quaker Hill; and brother-in-law Bob Boutin of Andover. He was predeceased by his sister Sue (Deshefy) Boutin; and godson Derek Rockholz. He also leaves behind his much-loved and many nieces and nephews.

He was a 1979 graduate of Montville High School. Mike worked as an electrician for over 40 years, beginning his career at Electric Boat in Groton, and then continuing his education and becoming a licensed journeyman electrician. He worked for and was a proud member of IBEW Local Union 35 in Hartford.

In his youth, Mike played baseball for Montville Little League and Babe Ruth. Later, he played softball for the Montville Polish Club alongside many of his long-time friends. Mike was an avid golfer and enjoyed many years of golfing with his foursome at the Norwich Golf Course. Mike was a huge Buffalo Bills and Mets fan and took trips to Buffalo, with his sons and friends to watch the Bills play. He also enjoyed the outdoors, working in his yard and planting his vegetable garden every summer. Mike was an excellent cook and always enjoyed cooking and was the grill master for his family.

Mike was a dedicated volunteer in the Montville community, volunteering as a little league coach for many years. He taught his team about good sportsmanship, while emphasizing that they always have fun. He was an active member of the Montville Polish Club and was instrumental in organizing and fundraising for several Polish Club golf tournaments.

Mike will be remembered for his gentle nature, generosity and kindness, but especially for his dry sense of humor and quick wit. He was very loved and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and his Pittsburgh family, all of whom he kept close to his heart.

Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 10, at the Woyasz & Son Funeral Home, 11 Jerome Road, Uncasville, followed by a service starting at 7 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be announced by the family at a later date. For those who are unable to attend, the service will be broadcast via Zoom. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Montville Senior Center, 12 Maple Avenue, Uncasville.

Great memories on poach rd. All of us playing baseball kickball and making forts in the woods playing cowboys and Indians on our bikes. Those were great times. Thanks for being in my childhood memories. Will miss you. Jean
