Michael Hannan Obituary
Mike was a graduate of Ledyard High School and Three Rivers (Thames Valley) Community College. His career at General Dynamics Electric Boat, where he began as a welder in 1980, and had worked as an electrical design technician since 1994, spanned almost 40 years. He served as a member of the Waterford Representative Town Meeting (RTM) for several years. In the 1990s, he shared his love for rock music, especially the Beatles, in his show, "Hairless Radio," on Connecticut College radio station WCNI. Above all, Mike was devoted to his family and friends and liked nothing more than to make everyone around him laugh. He enjoyed riding his 1996 Harley Davidson Road King, body surfing at Misquamicut and travelling, attending concerts and shows, dining out and indulging in a fine cigar and a glass of good bourbon with the love of his life, his wife Shawna Marie Zito-Hannan, of Quaker Hill , who survives him.
He is also survived by his son, Troy Michael Hannan and partner Brinna Curran of Niantic; stepson Arron David Bailey; stepdaughter Dana Sims; daughter-in-law Kelly Bailey; grandsons, Torrin Hannan, Anthony Todaro, TJ Bailey and Raymond Norman; and granddaughter Alyssa Norman. In addition, Mike leaves behind his siblings, Elizabeth Hannan Kading and husband James of Pawcatuck and Matthew James Hannan and wife Jenny of Greenville, R.I.; his aunt, Pat Brune and husband Fred of Groton; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews; and countless friends
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 13, at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Service, 181 Ocean Avenue, New London. A memorial service will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 14, at the Garde Arts Center, 325 State Street, New London. Dear Shawna,
I am so very sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I remember when you first met, you were such a cute couple...and so in love with each other. Mike was such a nice, kind man and I know he will be greatly missed by those who knew him and were lucky enough to have him in their life.
I hope all those happy memories you shared help get you through these sad times.

My Condolences to the entire Hannan Family. Mike and I went through Welding school together at EB 40 years ago when we were just young guys. Mike stayed at EB and I went a different direction after a year . Although our paths only crossed every few years.It was always a pleasure talking with him like it was yesterday attending the school. I always have had nothing but respect for Mike and I'm sure the rest of our welding class of 1980/81 feels the same way. Great guy .Sorry for your loss

My heart breaks to hear the news of Mike's death. Mike was such a great friend and energetic part of our Friends at EB Troop Support Family. It is hard for me, almost impossible, to think he's gone. Know proudly that I am better for having him in my life and will remember him always.

Dear Shawna and the entire circle of Mike's family n' friends,
Shawna, honey, am just in shock as I discovered the obit this morning! Don't even know how long I've known you two...met out n' about back in younger, more active years, through many common paths, but truly cemented the relationship here at The Boat through many years of EBECSA, Troop Support, and the like, always with warm, loving hugs and smiles from you both whenever we met.
Understanding the hole left behind, regardless the inevitability or forewarning, pray this helps some wee bit...to allow...enable...the grief...which will come...is painfully necessary...but is also a measure of the loving impact this very special man had on everyone! So truly sorry to hear about your husband, father, grandfather, friend. At least now he's at peace with our Lord definitely keepin' y'all in my prayers!
When my mother died, even after a years-long battle with cancer, I was shattered by the loss...inconsolable...she was my mentor! I like to think that I got my character from my father, but my mind and its capacity from m'dear sainted mother!!! BUT, "If your faith assures you she's in heaven, then what are the tears all about?!?" I hold eternity dearly close...a cherished, hard-won prize...but, in the interim, that answer lies below.

Mike, I am going to miss you!
I just saw you before you left Florida and you said "I'll be back!" and I knew you would...
Now the Good Lord called you Home and we have lost a really really GREAT PERSON and there's no getting over that!
I still remember us talking about how lucky we were to have had wives that kept us in line, laughed at our stupid jokes and loved us. I am going to miss our talks.
